About

Daftpop Sounds is a London/Beijing based music and events label which focuses on bringing sounds and experiences off the beaten track to new audiences. As a label Daftpop shares exciting new music from around the world through digital releases, CDs, vinyl, cassette tapes, and events, and also offers small batch tape duplication and lathe cut vinyl to other labels and artists, with clients spanning everything from folk and indie pop to black metal. In terms of events the Unicat Attack! live electronic music/DJ parties is the brand’s flagship event, while previous productions include China’s edition of International Cassette Store Day and the multimedia immersive event series Shining Dimensions. Daftpop was originally founded by British musician and artist Dann Gaymer and Chinese artist Nan Guazi with an initial focus on apparel and lifestyle, while the label is now operated by Gaymer with more of an audio and event focus.

Dann Gaymer is a British born musician, writer, artist, event organizer, and educator who has spent over 15 years living and working in East Asia. As a musician he has toured in over 20 countries and released numerous EPs and albums with different projects. As a writer he has extensively covered creative works from around the globe for a variety of outlets, as well as writing about his travels influenced by his training as an social anthropologist and psychologist. As a visual artist his work has been featured in exhibitions and used for clothing designs. Daftpop is the culmination of his work and experiences to date with a focus on giving a platform to works which might otherwise be overlooked. His endeavours are inspired by a simple idea: to offer alternative ways of seeing the world around us and our place in it, for when there are possibilities there is hope.
